Bertram Electronics Refit – Bringing a Bertram Back to Life - Awesome Fitout
If you’ve spent any time around serious offshore fishos, you’ll know the Bertram name carries a bit of legend with it.
These boats were built to run wide, punch through rough water and chase serious fish. Plenty of Aussie game boats still running today started life as Bertrams because they’re tough, stable and built for offshore work.
But even the best offshore hull eventually needs modern marine electronics to keep up with today’s navigation, sonar and safety standards.
That’s where the Shotgun Marine crew stepped in.

Happy boating! ?
Classic boats often end up with years of upgrades layered on top of each other. Old wiring, different brands and outdated electronics can make the helm messy and unreliable.
Our approach is simple.
Remove the old gear and rebuild the electronics system the right way.
A Proper Marine Electronics Refit
When we upgrade a boat like this Bertram, the job is much more than just installing a new screen.
A professional marine electronics installation usually includes:
• Modern multifunction displays (MFDs)
• Radar integration
• CHIRP sonar systems
• Transducer installation and setup
• NMEA 2000 network integration
• Clean helm layout and dash mounting
• Power distribution upgrades
• Waterproof cable routing and connections
Older game boats often have wiring that’s been added to for decades.
Behind the dash can look like spaghetti.
When we rebuild the system we tidy everything up with:
• labelled wiring
• clean cable looms
• proper power feeds
• sealed connections
The result is a helm that’s reliable offshore and easy to operate.
Built for Offshore Fishing
Classic Bertram hulls were designed to run offshore comfortably and safely.
When you combine that hull with modern sonar, radar and GPS chartplotters, the difference is huge.
A properly installed system gives you:
• clearer fish finding sonar
• better radar target tracking
• safer offshore navigation
• integrated charts and sonar data
• a clean and easy-to-use helm layout
Instead of guessing where the fish might be…
You can see the structure, bait and fish clearly on the screen.
Why Installation Matters
One of the biggest mistakes we see is boat owners buying expensive electronics online and installing them themselves.
Marine electronics only perform properly when they are installed, configured and networked correctly.
That includes:
• correct transducer positioning
• sonar calibration
• network integration
• power management
• waterproof connections
Without that setup, even the best electronics won't perform properly offshore.
That’s why professional installation makes a huge difference.
