At Shotgun Marine Services (SMS) and PMMS, we don’t just sell GPS chartplotters - we design, install and commission complete marine navigation systems that suit how you actually use your boat, whether you’re chasing fish offshore or running gear for work.
We’re authorised service dealers and accredited installers for all major brands including Garmin, B&G, Furuno, Simrad and Coursemaster. We’re not just an online store — we’re qualified, experienced marine electricians who assess, diagnose and design the right system before any gear is supplied.
From serious recreational fishing boats through to commercial, charter and government vessels, we provide consultation-led GPS chartplotter and multifunction display solutions across Port Macquarie, the Mid North Coast NSW and throughout New South Wales, with Australia-wide consultations available.
Garmin chartplotters are a popular choice with Aussie boaties thanks to their reliability, GPS accuracy and easy integration with sounders, radar and autopilots. That said, because we’re authorised across all major brands, we’ll always recommend what suits your boat and how you fish — not what suits a sales target.
All systems are professionally installed, networked and commissioned, with sharp package pricing available for full supply-and-install marine electronics solutions focused on safety, reliability and long-term support.
Book a GPS Chartplotter Technical Consultation
Do I need a chartplotter or a full multifunction display?
It depends on how you use your boat. We take the time to assess your setup and recommend a system that suits your fishing, cruising or commercial work now and into the future.
Is Garmin the best GPS chartplotter for fishing?
Garmin is a top choice for many anglers, but it’s not one-size-fits-all. We also install and support Furuno, B&G and Simrad and will guide you to the best option for your boat and style of fishing.
Can you integrate a new chartplotter with my existing electronics?
In most cases, yes. We check compatibility, networking and power before recommending the best way forward.
Do you handle commercial and government installations?
Absolutely. We specialise in professional marine electronics installations for commercial vessels, fleets and government boats.
Based in Port Macquarie and servicing the Mid North Coast NSW and New South Wales, our expert marine technicians provide professional GPS chartplotter installation, system integration and ongoing support for serious recreational and commercial vessels. We don’t operate as a click-and-buy electronics shop. Instead, every chartplotter we supply is backed by technical consultation, correct installation, and long-term service support.
GPS chartplotters form the backbone of modern marine navigation, combining satellite positioning with electronic charts to give accurate, real-time awareness of your vessel’s position, speed and course. When installed and commissioned correctly, they become a reliable navigation tool - not just another screen at the helm.
Diagnosis-Led GPS Chartplotter Solutions
Not all chartplotter installations are the same. Hull type, helm layout, electrical systems, antenna placement and how the vessel is operated all affect performance and reliability.
Our role is to assess and diagnose first, then design a GPS chartplotter solution that integrates cleanly with the vessel’s existing electronics, power systems and operating requirements. This approach ensures reliable performance, reduced interference, and a navigation system that works properly in real-world conditions - not just on paper.
Marine Sounder & Fish Finder FAQs
What’s the difference between a marine sounder and a fish finder?
They’re essentially the same thing. “Sounder” is the traditional boating term, while “fish finder” is more consumer-focused wording. Both use sonar technology to display depth, structure and fish targets under your boat. Modern fish finder GPS units combine chartplotting, mapping and sonar in one system.
Why do I lose bottom at speed?
Losing bottom when running offshore is usually caused by turbulence across the transducer. Incorrect mounting position, poor angle or aerated water flow can disrupt the sonar signal. A properly installed CHIRP sounder with the right transducer should hold bottom at cruising speed in most offshore conditions.
Is a 1kW transducer worth it?
If you fish offshore regularly, yes. A 1kW transducer provides stronger returns, better depth penetration and clearer bottom definition compared to 600W systems. For deep drop or serious bluewater fishing, stepping up in power makes a noticeable difference.
What’s better – CHIRP or Live Sonar?
CHIRP sonar is excellent for traditional depth sounding and structure reading beneath the boat. Live sonar systems like Garmin LiveScope show real-time fish movement and structure in front of the vessel. Many serious anglers run both for the ultimate setup.
Do you install marine sounders or just sell them?
We do both. We supply marine sounders and fish finder GPS systems Australia-wide and offer professional installation from our Port Macquarie workshop. We’re authorised service dealers for all major brands, so we fit and tune systems properly - not just sell boxes.
Which brand is best – Garmin, Furuno or Simrad?
Each brand has strengths depending on your fishing style and vessel. Garmin integrates beautifully with chartplotters and LiveScope. Furuno is renowned for high-power offshore sonar and DFF3D. Simrad offers strong CHIRP performance and reliable integration. We’re authorised across all major brands, so we recommend what suits your boat - not what earns commission.
